The Descendants of Samuel Cobb of Delaware

    Samuel Cobb was born in Delaware. We do not yet know who his parents were.

    The lineage here starts with Samuel Cobb, Sr. about which we know very little. This info below is from the pension application of his son, Samuel Cobb, Jr., which relates some of his movement throughout his life.
    "I was born in the state of DE in the county of Sussex about 1761. When an infant my parents moved to Augusta Co. in the state of VA where I remained until about 1776. After the war I lived for a short time on the Youghiogheny River at the place called Big Glades in Maryland. I then moved to Cheat River in what is now Randolph Co. VA. I remained there about four years and moved into Monongalia Co. and remained there about the same amount of time. (Note: both of these counties are now in WV) I then moved to Fleming Co. in Kentucky and lived there about 22 years. About 11 years ago I moved to this county (Montgomery Co. MO) where I have remained ever since."
    Samuel moved to KY ca. 1800 and his move to Montgomery Co. MO took place ca. 1823 where he died 1835-1840. Montgomery county was formed in Dec 1818 but became effective Jan 1, 1819.
    Samuel married Magdelene Peveler but there is some indication that this might not have been her maiden name as her marriage to Samuel may have been a 2nd marriage for her.
    There are 3 known Cobb males from this line who have participated in the DNA project. It might be helpful to get additional males tested. We are looking for someone to be a file manager for this line.
