Hosea Townsend, Judge.
In reference to Case #33, W. F. Cobb et al vs Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations, Citizenship Court, June Term 1904; George Cobb, Samuel B. Gee and other descendants of Wilson Cobb filed claim for Indian citizenship and lands in Oklahoma, in distribution of tribal assets.† Their claim was based on being descendants of one Samuel Cobb, a Choctaw Chief.† There was a Samuel Cobb, supposedly a full blood Choctaw, who was removed from Mississippi to Oklahoma Territory and died in what is now McCurtain County prior to the Civil War.† He had a son named William A. Cobb, born in Mississippi aboaut 1809, and died in what is now Bryan County, Oklahoma in 1874.† He was a missionary preacher.† William A. Cobb and his mixed blood wife, Sophia, had a son named Lewis W. Cobb, born 1848, died 1929. (From Chronicles of Okla. - TCS)† This is probably the Samuel Cobb that Wilson Cobb's grandchildren claimed as their ancestor.† However, in the testimony of various deponents, the Samuel Cobb under question, who was thought to have been the father of Wilson Cobb, was from Greenville District, South Carolina.

Special Inquiries Relating to Indians (Part of above census) lists all of above as Choctaw, Ida as 3/4 white and all the children as 7/8 white.† None of this Cobb family is listed on the Dawes Final Rolls, so they apparently were removed sometime after 1900.† Therefore, they may or may not have been Choctaw Indian.
He was married to Ida Marilla BELL on 24 December 1878 in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas.† Ida Marilla BELL was born on 2 August 1861 in Grayson County, Texas.† She died on 4 January 1962 in Iowa Park, Wichita County, Texas.† She was buried on 6 January 1962 in Riverside Cemetery, Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas.
Iowa Park, TX newspaper article:
MRS. COBB TELLS OF EARLY DAYS IN INDIAN TERRITORY
Mrs. Ida Cobb, who lives with her daughter, Mrs. J. A. Pautsky, celebrated her 98th birthday Sunday, August 2 (1959).† Mrs. Cobb was born and reared near Sherman (Grayson County, TX).† She received her education at Kidd Key College (a finishing school for young ladies) in Sherman.
†She was married to Flem Cobb Dec. 24, 1878.† They lived near Paris (Texas) a few years later moving to Oklahoma, which was Indian Territory at that time.† Tishomingo was the capital of Indian Territory.† Bill Murray was a close neighbor practicing law.† He later became governor of the state.† Her son Hugh attended Indian Academy.† Her daughter Gracie went to school with Jim Bridges, who later was sheriff of Tishomingo County.† The Cobbs settled a 320 acre farm three miles north of Tishomingo, located on Pennington about one mile down from Devil's Den, which had not been excavated at that time.
Mr. Cobb died in February 1898 leaving six children.† Mrs. Cobb had a hard struggle but she kept the children together and was a wonderful mother.† Mrs. Cobb was never too busy to visit and help the sick in the neighborhood.† Everybody sent for her when there was a new baby to arrive.† She sat up many, many nights with the sick.† There were no hospitals and few doctors, no cars and no electricity.
She regards the washing machine as our greatest invention.† She tells of going to the creek to wash, rubbing on a board and boiling in a big pot.† Home- made lye soap was used for most every cleansing purpose.† Mrs. Cobb tells of hauling water more than a mile on a sled, with a little mule named Kit.† She also remembers her mother's telling her of the hardships during the Civil War, in which her father fought.
Sunday was a big day for Mrs. Cobb.† The Church of Christ folks came and sang some hymns for her.† She received many nice gifts and a big number of cards, for which she is grateful.† Someone said "I'll see you on your 100th birthday."† "I'll be here," was her quick reply.† When folks comment on her age she beams back, "I've got a sister nearly 104.† She lives in Ada, Okla".
Mrs. Cobb enjoyed a big dinner including apple cobbler and angel food cake prepared by her two daughters.† Those attending were a daughter, Mrs. R. L. Oden of Aubrey;† granddaughter Beverly Tumi (Toumi?) of Houston;† grandson Noel Pautsky and family of Holliday; great-granddaughter Marilla Sue Brown of Cedar Falls, Iowa;† and grandson Weldon Pautsky of the home.
Mrs. Cobb was able to talk and hear long distance to her son Townsend of Overton.
Ida Cobb's gravestone has these dates:† August 2, 1860 - January 6, 1961.† But her obituary in an Iowa Park newspaper dated January 11, 1962 lists her date of birth as August 2, 1861, age 100.† William Fleming COBB and Ida Marilla BELL had the following children:
