Macomb-Nellie L. Downey, 101, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 11:10 PM Thursday March 31, 2011 at the Wesley Village Healthcare Center in Macomb. She was born May 23, 1909 in Hartford, Iowa to Michael and Gertrude Van Slike Robinson. She first married Albert Bailey Cobb on December 1, 1928; he preceded her in death on July 21, 1957. She then married William Downey on March 8, 1978, he preceded her on Dec. 7, 2003. She was also preceded in death by 1 daughter in infancy Barbara Cobb, 1 son; Richard Lee Cobb, 1 brother; Benjamin Robinson, 2 sisters; Frances Cobb and Bonnie Ely and 2 brothers in infancy. Surviving are 4 sons; Albert "Eddie"(Jackie-Deceased) Cobb of Good Hope, Illinois, L. Wayne (Sheila) Cobb of Delevan, Illinois, Joseph Bailey(Carolyn-Deceased) Cobb Beulah, Colorado, Frederick Lee (Janet) Cobb of Macomb; 12 grandchildren; Nick, Erik, Nathan, Vickie, Mark, Tim, Jeffrey, Shelly, April, Steven and Tina, Dan, 8 great-grandchildren, three families of five generations which includes 5 great-great grandchildren Nellie was the oldest living member of Bethel Baptist Church where she played the piano. She worked at J.C. Penny in Macomb and Prescott, Arizona before retiring in 1974. Services will be at 11 AM Monday April 4, 2011 at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, where visitation will be 1 hour prior to services. Rev. Jim Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church.
