Laura S. Mudget(t) was the daughter of Moses and Sarah "Sally" (Norris) Mudgett. She married first Simeon Cobb bet. Aug 1840 and 1841 in, probably, Fair Haven, Rutland, VT. They had three children: Edward Livingston Cobb (1841-1899); Evelyn Mary Cobb (1843-1921) who married Charles Mortimer White (1823-1913) as his second wife; and Simeon Mortimer Cobb (abt. 1848 to Jul 1862). Following the death of Simeon in 1847 she married as his first wife, John G. Gould (1826-1918). They had one daughter, Elizabeth Sarah "Libbie" Gould (1857-1922).

The stone erroneously places her birthplace of Dalton in Vermont, it is in New Hampshire. Laura and her parents, along with her siblings, left New Hampshire between 1824-1826 and removed to Moriah Twp., Essex, NY by 1830. In 1837 they are in Throopsville, Cayuga, NY. In 1840 they are in West Haven, Rutland, VT. In 1850 Laura is widowed and living with her parents in Mentz, Cayuga, NY. By 1856 she is living with her husband John in St. Charles, Floyd, Iowa either next-door or in the same household with her sister, Emeroy White, first wife of Charles Mortimer White. Laura and John Gould remained in St. Charles, Iowa until after the 1860 census. In Nov 1861 John G. Gould enlisted in service for the Civil War from Coldwater, Branch, Michigan where both the White and the Gould families had moved. On 15 Dec 1863 she was a witness to the marriage of her daughter, Evelyn Mary Cobb by her first husband, to her former brother-in-law, Charles Mortimer White, as her sister Emeroy died 6 January 1863 in Coldwater, Branch, Michigan. In 1870 John, Laura and Libbie Gould lived in Chippewa Twp., Isabella County, Michigan. Sometime between 1870 and 1875 the Gould family removed to Jefferson County, Illinois. Their daughter, Libbie, married John W. Phillips on 5 Sep 1875 in that county. Following Laura's death John G. Gould married twice and moved to Milboro, SD where he is buried.
