She applied for a pension based on David's service in 1838.

No, I have no idea if David Cobb & Catherine "Kitty" Bird lived in
S.C. I do know that he was on deed records w/ his brothers in
Spartanburg, SC. But that adjoins Lincoln Co., NC, so he may not
have ever lived in SC. Could well have owned land there even, & still
been a resident of NC.
That you have no records of a Cobb there is indicative of why
several excellent researchers spent several years looking for my
David Cobb's family, with no success. The only way I found these
in Spartanburg, was in searching local records on my other lines
(Sartain-Turner). Incidentally, my Sartain ancestors were in
Spartanburg for abt. 20+ yrs. & there are NO records there that are
obvious (census, probate, etc.) Had to find them at archives in with
others deeds, etc. Same w/ Cobbs.
The Abbott family which Willam Cobb married into in Spartanburg,
also md. into a Turner family. They lived very near the NC state
line. A longtime researcher of these families who lives in
Spartanburg (born & raised) corresponded w/ me for yrs. and sent
me deed records, bible records, mil. service records, etc. In the
process of sorting out our Turner lines, I discovered the Cobbs in
deed records, probate, etc. of the in-laws.

The ones on land records together are: John (who md. Franky),
Ralph, David, & William. Ralph & William are the only 2 that I
believe (from deeds) lived in SC. The others MAY have, but I don't
know that. John & Franky were later in Pendleton Dist., SC. He
was apparently still in Lincoln Co., NC/Spartanburg area when he
witnessed deeds for his brothers.

As neither he or any heirs were mentioned in his father's 1840 Will, it is assumed he died unmarried and without issue. He was buried in Old Salem Cemetery, McMinn County, Tennessee. The stone was readable in the late 1930's but is no longer.
