The Barre Daily Times, Barre, Vermont - Wednesday, April 8, 1914:

Quincy W. Cobb, 77, for a long time a resident of this town and a blacksmith by trade, died suddenly Monday of heart disease at the Jamaica Savings Banks in Jamaica, Vermont. He went to the bank to transact some business and on his arrival there, he found it somewhat difficult to breathe. After finishing his business, he sat down and complained of feeling dizzy. At that time the officers of the bank were holding a regular meeting and J. A. Muzzy, J. W. Melendy, and Horace Sanders worked over Mr. Cobb, but he died in about 15 minutes. Dr. and Mrs. A. W. Thomas were out of the village. Mr. Cobb boarded at C. L. Sargent's.

The deceased was born in East Putney on February 11, 1837 and was one of six children, all boys, of Norman and Mary (Carr) Cobb. His ancestors were of sturdy stock who came from Taunton, Massachusetts to Vermont and blazed a trail to Coventry where they became the first settlers. Several generations of the Cobbs were blacksmiths, and some of the deceased's brothers learned the same trade.

After leaving East Putney, Mr. Cobb was a blacksmith in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, and his wife was Jennie Barnes of that town. She died a few years ago in Indianapolis, Indiana. Later in life, Mr. Cobb returned to East Putney and worked at his trade. Afterwards he was for some years in Townshend, going from there to Jamaica.

All of the six sons of his father's family grew to mature manhood. Norman, the eldest, died in Keene, New Hampshire, and Daniel P. died in Brattleboro. The survivors are Alphonso C. and Hollis B., both of East Putney, and Marshall E. of Putney. Mr. Cobb leaves two children, Arthur W. Cobb and Eva, wife of Robert Fessler, both of Indianapolis, and several grandchildren.
