A Copy of a Record of the Cobbs Family sent to W.S. Morton by Mrs. May
Lester of Charlotte Court House, Va. in 1932:

Bible record of John Cobbs of Halifax County, Virginia. He begins by
writing of the marriage of "my Father and my Mother, December 25, 1769
at Charlotte Court House."

He (John Cobbs) married Martha Hunt March 1, 1803; a second time to Kitty
Pollock April 9, 1817; a third time to Margaret Waller July _ 1834.

My daughter Susan was married to Dr. Thomas Clark June 26 - (illegible
from tear); Sarah Cobbs, my oldest daughter, was married to Josiah La
Prade, March 2, 1827; Martha Cobbs, my daughter, was married to
Benjamin A. Anthony, November 15, 1834; John R. Cobbs, my son, was
married to Drusillah Kennerly, October 8, 1834; Samuel K. Cobbs, my
son, was married to Jane Tatum, October 26, 1837.

My father was born March 4, 1741
My mother was born Feb. 24 old style 1753
My oldest sister, Peggy, was born December 24, 1770
My brother, Robert, was born March 19, 1772
Myself was born March 4, 1774
My father and mother had 14 children, (to wit)
Peggy, Robert, John, Croshan, Susannah, Samuel, Lawton, Nancy, Judy,
Caty, Polly, Thomas, Charles, and Patsy, six sons and eight daughters
I never had a brother to marry

Sarah Cobbs, my daughter, was born February 5, 1804
Susannah Cobbs was born March 8, 1806
John Robert Cobbs was born Jan 16, 1813
Samuel Elijah Cobbs was born June 9, 1810
Martha Cobbs was born Jan 16, 1813
Mary E. Cobbs was born Dec 27, 1819
Lucy Cobbs was born Aug 26, 1820

Martha R. Hunt was born Feb 24, 1779 - she was my first wife

Kitty Pollock, my second wife, was born - 1784

Margaret Waller, my third wife was born -1804

John Cobbs himself died in 1853 at 82 years of age

Mrs. Lester wrote that Samuel Cobbs of Halifax County was married at
Charlotte Court House December 25, 1769

marriage bond in Halifax County, VA, dated November 22, 1813)

""Know all men by these presents that we Anderson Connally and John Cobbs of
Halifax County, are held and firmly bound unto HIS EXCELLENCY James
*illegible* (Barber-Barbis?) Govenor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and to
his successors, in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to
the use of the said Commonwealth; to the payment whereof, well and truly to
be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, *illegible*
jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and
dated this 22nd day of November, 1813.

The condition of the above obligation is such, That whereas there is a
marriage intended to be solemnized between the above bound Anderson Connally
and Catherine Cobbs of this county: Now, if there be no lawful cause to
obstruct the same, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in
full force and virtue.

WEST PELZER, SC - Margaret Lee Teague Cobb, 87, of 6 Stephanie Drive, widow of John Andrew Cobb, Sr., died Thursday, February 5, 2009, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Lillian Crocker Teague. She was a homemaker and a member of Pelzer Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by daughters, Phyllis Simpson of West Pelzer, and Angela Cox and her husband, Allen, of Piedmont; son, John A. Cobb, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Piedmont; grandchildren, Tina Cobb, Tara Kimbrough, Tammy Ward, Eric Cothran, and John Cobb, III; and great-grandchildren, Drew Williams, Jenna Ward, and Hayden Cothran.

She was predeceased by a son, Charles N. Cobb; grandson, Tony Cobb; three sisters; and three brothers.

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Wesley Dixon and Mr. Dale Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
