During the War Between the States, he served in Company A, 10th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (US).
It is extremely difficult to accurately list the family of Benjamin Cobb, primarily due to the facts it is impossible to identify him on the 1880 census, and the 1900 enumeration of his household is very confusing. As best as can be determined his last child William was born about 1878. Wife Elizabeth died sometime between then and 1900. It can be said that Benjamin did not re-marry.
Daughter Julia was apparently married twice. Her first husband was a Mr. SARGENT by who she had a daughter Edna, born June 1887 in Kentucky. The second husband was William O. TRUMBO, born about 1874 in Kentucky. They married about 1897. By 1910, the Trumbo family was living in Terre Haute, Indiana. Edna Sargent was still unmarried and living with them at that time.
It appears son Benjamin married a Fannie ??? sometime before 1891, and that he was deceased by 1900. He and Fannie had at least three children. Son Ollie was born in October 1891, and John was born in November 1893; both in Kentucky. Daughter Lillie was born in June 1897, also in Kentucky. These children and Fannie were living in Benjamin Sr.'s household in 1900. The enumeration for the household was listed to make it appear Fannie was a daughter, rather than daughter-in-law, of Benjamin Sr. Ollie and John utterly disappeared after the 1900 census; but Fannie married again about 1905 to one Bruce COX. The 1910 census for Mason County, Kentucky lists the Cox family with Lillian Cobb in the household.
